The children of Cambodia

Three boys with the family cow.

In a country struggling to rebuild after years of war and strife, the people of Cambodia are working hard to create a future for their families. But recovery has been slow. Nearly half of all Cambodian children are malnourished, and one in eight dies before their fifth birthday, largely due to preventable causes.

In the passing years foreign aid from all over the world have been poured in to help Cambodia recover. Unfortunately, Cambodia is riddled with corruption and little of that money is filtering through to the people who need it the most, the desperately poor.

Near 34% of all Cambodians are surviving on less than a dollar a day. They have no choice but to send their children to work as beggars, maids, can collectors and far worse, for as little as 25 cents a day. Child labour is common in Cambodia and the conditions are horrific.

These families have no access to health care and have been deprived from even the most basic knowledge or education. People here have little hope for improvement in the future. They are trapped in a system of exploitation and structural corruption. The only future hope lay in the next generation, in the children of Cambodia.

Help us to give them a chance.
